AMREF Maanisha - Acres of Mercy Round Two Grant Funding Approved

 Acres of Mercy got a second grant approval for its HIV/AIDS Intervention program from AMREF Maanisha. The grant is to the tune of Ksh.450,000 ($ 5625). The project set to begin in February 2011 to December 2011 is titled "Strengthening HIV/AIDS interventions in Matungulu District through Community Partnerships"

AMREF Maanisha works to provide community focused initiatives in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS. In tandem with the slogan "Putting African Communities First", Acres of Mercy will in 2011 partner with the community it works in (Matungulu, Nguluni, Kenya) to Strengthen HIV/AIDS Interventions.

The 2011 program will aim to achieve the following activities:-

 

·         Stigma reduction training for 25 church leaders and youth leaders

·         Behaviour change communication among the youth and men through a Soccer Tournament Over through 3 Quarters of the year(April, August, December 2011) coupled with testing services provided during the tournaments and culminating in World AIDS DAY 2011 celebrations

·         Referral transport for the sick at home to promote ART adherence.

·         25 community leaders Trained on understanding and protecting the rights of children and PLHIVs within the community culminating in identification of the right actions to be taken and right channels of communication and a celebration of Day of the African Child 2011 and World AIDS Day.

·          Establishment of income generating activities that will support organisational sustainability and improve HIV/AIDS intervention measures with a training component on better farming techniques such as improvement of indigenous breeds and business skills for 25 care givers of OVC’s
